Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with colorful liners.
  • In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix together the vegetable oil, room temperature buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar. Whisk until well combined.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing gently until smooth. A few lumps are perfectly fine.
  • Fill the cupcake liners with batter about 2/3 full.

Baking

  • Bake for 20-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool completely before frosting with cream cheese frosting.

Notes
