Cream Cheese Layer

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.

Making the Brownie Batter

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
  • Mix in the eggs, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  • Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Gently mix until just combined.

Cream Cheese Layer

  • In a separate bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

Layering and Baking

  • Pour about 2/3 of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and smooth it out evenly.
  • Spread the cream cheese layer over the top.
  • Dollop the remaining brownie batter on top of the cream cheese layer and swirl gently with a knife.
  • Bake for 28-32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.

Cooling and Slicing

  • Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the edges of the parchment paper.
  • Once cool, slice into squares.
