Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, black pepper, and optionally, sesame seeds. Add the thinly sliced beef, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Cover and let chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Cooking

  • Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the marinated beef until browned and fully cooked, about 2-3 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate and set aside.

Seasoning the Rice

  • In a separate bowl, stir together rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Add this mixture to the warm cooked rice, tossing gently to ensure every grain is evenly seasoned.

Assembly

  • In serving bowls, layer the seasoned rice, followed by the cooked beef, and then top with cucumber, avocado, carrots, and green onions. Drizzle spicy mayo on top if desired.

Notes

For deeper flavors, marinate the beef overnight. You can also mix in additional vegetables like bell peppers or radishes. For a smoky flavor, grill the beef outdoors.
