Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure a perfectly baked cobbler.
  • In a 9×9-inch baking dish, melt the butter until it’s completely liquid.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, milk, vanilla extract, and sourdough starter until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Gently stir in the semi-sweet chocolate chips to ensure even distribution.
  • Carefully pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Avoid stirring.
  • In another bowl, mix sugar and cocoa powder for topping, and sprinkle this mixture evenly across the top of the batter.
  • Carefully pour the boiling water over the entire baking dish without stirring.
  • Place the dish in the oven and bake for 35–40 minutes.

Notes

For best results, serve with whipped cream or ice cream. You can use other types of starter or yogurt instead of sourdough starter. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
