Instructions

Caramelizing the Onions

  • Melt the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the thinly sliced onions and cook for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Sprinkle in salt and sugar (if using) and pour in the beef broth.
  • Let simmer until the liquid is absorbed.

Preparing the Meatloaf Mixture

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, French onion soup mix, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Mix gently using your hands until just combined, avoiding overmixing.

Forming the Meatloaf

  • On parchment paper, flatten the meat mixture into a rectangular shape.
  • Spread the caramelized onion mixture evenly over the center.
  • Roll the meatloaf into a log shape, sealing the edges tightly.

Cooking in the Crockpot
