For the shrimp

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled, deveined, tail-on Juicy and plump for frying
  • 1/2 cup hot honey For glazing the shrimp
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper Adds heat

  • 1 teaspoon paprika For color and smokiness
  • 1 cup buttermilk For tenderizing shrimp

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Preparation

  • Soak the shrimp in buttermilk for 15 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne. Mix well.

Frying

  • Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep skillet.
  • Remove the shrimp from the buttermilk and let excess drip off. Dredge in the flour mixture.
  • Carefully add the coated shrimp to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towels to soak up excess oil.

Serving

  • Drizzle the shrimp with hot honey.
  • Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve.

Notes

For added crunch, consider double-dipping the shrimp. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days. Freeze for longer storage. Variations include using maple syrup or adding sesame seeds.
