Instructions

Preparation

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and any optional spices.
  • Gradually pour in the cold beer while whisking continuously until the batter becomes smooth and slightly thick. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
  • Lightly coat each fish fillet in plain flour to help the batter stick better.

Cooking

  • Dip each flour-coated fillet into the batter, ensuring full coverage.
  • Carefully lower the coated fish into the hot oil. Fry for 5–7 minutes until golden brown, turning once.
  • Drain the fish on a wire rack or paper towels to eliminate excess grease.
  • Serve hot with tartar sauce and lemon wedges.
