Cooking the Meat

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground Italian sausage until browned. Drain the excess fat.
  • Add onion powder, oregano, red pepper flakes, and marinara sauce to the skillet. Stir together and let it simmer for a couple of minutes.

Assembling the Filling

  • Brush the inside of the hollowed-out bread with melted butter mixed with garlic powder. Layer half of the shredded mozzarella at the bottom.
  • Spread the meat sauce mixture evenly over the cheese. Add mini pepperoni slices, then top with remaining mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

Baking

  • Sprinkle extra mozzarella on top and arrange additional pepperoni slices if desired. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Serving

  • Garnish with fresh parsley. Slice into thick pieces and serve with extra marinara sauce on the side.

Notes

You can substitute sausage with shredded chicken or a vegetarian option such as sautéed mushrooms and spinach. Consider adding diced bell peppers or onions for extra flavor.
