Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef Juicy and hearty, forming the dish's base.
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped Sweet and earthy undertones.
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce Adds freshness and crunch.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Creamy and melty goodness.
  • 4 pieces sesame seed hamburger buns Soft and inviting.
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise Rich and creamy.
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard For tangy, zesty flavor.
  • 1/4 cup ketchup Sweet and savory.
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar A hint of acidity.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Offsets acidity and enhances sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Aromatic and flavorful.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder For additional savory depth.
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped dill pickles For perfect crunch and sharpness, plus extra for topping.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste To bring all the flavors together.

Instructions

Cooking

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef along with the finely chopped onion. Cook until the beef is no longer pink, then drain the excess fat.
  • In a separate bowl, combine ketchup, yellow mustard, mayonnaise, white vinegar, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Whisk until smooth.
  • Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the cooked ground beef and onions. Stir in the finely chopped dill pickles and simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Toast the sesame seed hamburger buns in the oven or on a griddle until golden brown.
  • Spoon a generous amount of the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, then top with shredded lettuce and a sprinkle of shredded cheese. Add extra dill pickles if desired.
  • Cap the sandwiches with the top bun and serve them warm.

Notes

For added flavor, consider sautéing the onions until caramelized before adding the ground beef. Experiment with different types of cheese; mozzarella or pepper jack could add a unique twist. For an extra crunch, adding a layer of potato chips inside the sandwich before closing it up can enhance the texture.
